2018 Fall GASPA CONFERENCE

The Georgia Association of Personnel Administrators is pleased to announce the 2018 GASPA Fall Conference on November 12 – 14, 2018 at the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort.  A tentative agenda will be posted on our GASPA website.  (http://gaspanet.org) soon.  

You will enjoy spending time with Dr. Ron Busbee, our keynote speaker, as he presents Developing Personnel Leadership in Administrators.  Dr. Busbee served 30 years in the Houston County School District, including Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and has 38 years of experience in the area of education.  He has served as a pat-time professor at the University of Georgia teaching graduate level courses in the area of school personnel.  He currently serves at Piedmont College as a Coordinator of Off Campus Graduate Studies.  He is a Professor and Senior Fellow in Education.  He also conducts School Board training in the area of Personnel and Human Resources.  He has presented at both state and national conferences. 

Phil Hartley will be presenting an always informative legal issues update.  The Professional Standards Commission will provide important certification updates.  Dr. Buster Evans, Executive Director of Teacher Retirement Systems (TRS), will keep us current on trends and changes in TRS.   From the GaDOE, Cindy Saxon, Carly Ambler and Amy Rowell will be presenting on the Highlights of a Successful FY 18 Recruiting and Retention Practices and A Second Look at PQ/In-Field and the Financial Impact for HR Decisions.   Carly Ambler will also present an update on PQ for the 2018-2019 school year. 

Three Pre-Conference Sessions are planned and will include: 

New Member Orientation will be led by Kim Clayton, Director of Personnel and Public Relations, Coffee County Schools and Valerie Suessmith, Assistant Superintendent, Henry County Schools.

Certification 101 will be led by Dr. Kelli Young, GaPSC Certification Division Director.

Work Comp A – Z will be led by Mickey Key of GSBA.  This session will include discussion on Accident Reporting, Physician Panels, Forms and Procedures, Accident Investigations, Return to Work, Mediations, and Drug Testing.

A continental breakfast will be available for those who attend the first pre-conference session and a boxed lunch will be available for those who attend the third pre-conference session.

Other sessions will include Understanding Cultural Diversity, Employee Accident Reduction, and Stress is Real - How to Effectively Manage It!

Hotel reservations can be made online at the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort.  Cutoff date when rooms are released to the general public is Thursday, October 11, 2018.    

Standard room rate is $125, Resort View rate is $140, Partial Oceanview rate is $150, and Oceanfront rate is $160.  There is a limited number of rooms in each category so reserve rooms early.

Conference Registration can be made online by scrolling down to the bottom of this screen and clicking on the link.  The cutoff date for online registration is November 5, 2018. 

PLEASE NOTE:  Online credit cards payments are available.  Online registrations after November 1, 2018 will need to use the credit card option.  All payments by check must be received by November 1, 2018.  Online registration CUT OFF is November 5, 2018.
