2017 Collaborative Conversation and
Active Engagement for All Students
Georgia State Standards require that students be able to perform higher order thinking skills fluently across all content areas. How can teachers structure instruction so that all learners have the support needed for these types of tasks? Students must be actively engaged throughout lessons that are built for complex thinking and responding by all learners.
This professional development session will focus on effective teaching practices that engage all students in collaborative academic conversations. Participants will learn multiple means of gaining many answers from all learners while providing scaffolding, particularly for children who often do not participate. Particular emphasis will be given to strategies that help struggling students participate in conversations that require higher order thinking skills and complex academic language.
