The Georgia Association of Personnel Administrators is pleased to announce the 2018 Spring Conference on May 30 – June 1, 2018 at the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort. A tentative agenda will be posted on our GASPA website. (http://gaspanet.org) soon.
You will enjoy spending time with Martha N. Bryan, our keynote speaker, as she presents Take your Job & Love it! Martha Bryan is a leading authority on the development of human potential and personal excellence. With an educational background in teaching, she has taught at both the high school and college levels and held positions in both government and private industries. Fascinated by what makes some individuals strive to be the very best, Martha has devoted her life to studying peek performers. She gives practical ideas, methods, tips, and techniques that you will emerge excited, enthusiastic and eager to apply her ideas in your work and your life!
Phil Hartley will be presenting an always informative legal issues update. The Professional Standards Commission will provide important certification updates. Dr. Buster Evans, Executive Director of Teacher Retirement Systems (TRS), will keep us current on trends and changes in TRS. Dr. Caitlin Dooley, the Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning for the Georgia Department of Education, will share relevant details regarding the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Two Pre-Conference Sessions are planned and will include a session on CPI led by experts Elaine Wilson, Professional Qualifications Specialist, Forsyth County Schools and Deb Garner, Assistant HR Director, Gwinnett County Schools. GASPA President-Elect, Ronnie Wade will share insights in his session entitled, A Lesson in Leadership. This session will include discussion and activities around actualizing leadership in your current role. The session will conclude with a discussion on how to become involved in leadership roles within GASPA.
Other sessions will include:
1. EEO: What You Should Know will give an overview of the federal EEO laws prohibiting employment discrimination and detail what constitutes employment discrimination. This includes harassment issues, a review of the EEOC charge process; employee rights and employers’ responsibilities; as well as best practices.
2. Title IX – Compliance and Responsibilities will ensure that your district is compliant and offer helpful tips to add to your toolbox.
3. The panel on Compensation Studies – From Implementation to Results will give you insight into what it takes to develop a comprehensive compensation plan.
4. Expanding your Recruiting Reach will offer ideas on getting the most from your recruitment efforts.
5. A panel presentation on Substitute Teacher Management and Support will offer advice on effective substitute management.
6. Teacher Selection Model (From application reviews to decisional analysis) will give helpful strategies in hiring the best.
7. Pay Parity and Reclassification will guide you through this process.
Hotel reservations can be made online at the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort. Cutoff date when rooms are released to the general public is Sunday, April 29, 2018.
Standard room rate is $149 Resort view rate is $164, Partial ocean view rate is $179, and Oceanfront rate is $194. Two bedroom/two bath private ocean villas with living room and kitchen areas provide an option for two individuals to share the unit at a cost of $250 each. There is a limited number of rooms in each category so reserve rooms early.
